 Salt tolerance is a special emphasis in the S&W alfalfa breeding program. Both laboratory and field tests are used to develop varieties with tolerance to highly saline (EC 9 -12) irrigation waters and salty soils. As hay production is pushed to more salty soils, this salt tolerance is critical in alfalfa varieties.
