HIGH QUALITY FORAGE and resistance to Root Knot Nematode, Fusarium Wilt,
Spotted Alfalfa Aphid, Blue Alfalfa Aphid, Phytophthora Root Rot and Pea
Aphid.
Adaptation and Appearance
SW 6403 alfalfa is a semi-dormant variety with dormancy rating of 6.5.
Growth is erect, with medium fine stems, large leaves and dark green
forage. SW 6403 is adapted to the Sacramento Valley and Northern and
Central San Joaquin Valley of California. This is a VERY HIGH QUALITY
hay producer.
Disease, insect and nematode
resistance
SW 6403 is highly resistant to Blue Aphid and Fusarium Wilt.
It is resistant to Spotted Alfalfa Aphid and Root Knot Nematode, and
moderately resistant to Phytophthora Root Rot, Anthracnose and Pea
Aphid.
Uses and Production
For hay production, this variety is adapted to areas suited to dormancy
6 or 7 alfalfas. SW 6403 has produced 11% more yield than CUF 101 in 3
years of University of California yield trials at UC Davis. This variety
produces DAIRY QUALITY hay.
Development
SW 6403 was developed in the
Imperial Valley and San Joaquin Valley of California, Final plant
selections were made and breeder's seed produced near Mendota,
California. SW 6403 was synthetized from 84 plants and is a California
Certified Variety. |
